Court: Army Corps of Engineers liable for Katrina flooding

Duval ruled that because the Corps failed to maintain the shipping channel, erosion widened it, and its banks — which helped protect the levees — deteriorated, leaving the levees unprotected, undermined and more vulnerable to waves coming off Lake Borgne. The Corps also failed to take other actions, such as armoring the banks with rocks, the attorneys said.

I’m kind of conflicted about this. I don’t think that placing blame on one entity like this is the right way to handle the situation. What happened before, during and after Katrina was the fault of many, many people. Placing blame on one entity in a sense relieves the rest of any responsibility.

From a legal standpoint, I’m quite curious how this will play out. Government entities in general usually have immunity from such actions. -M

Dear Tumblr,

It would be neat if all followers appeared on one page, maybe a “continuous” one sort of like the dashboard. It’s very hard to find people in the current format. It would also be convenient to see your followers/following at the same time, but I’m guessing people’s feelings would be hurt or something.

I don’t know much about your marketing or ultimate goals or whatnot, but I highly suggest that you start to target people like me: regulars. The non-NYC, non-artsy/whatever, people who have regular jobs (mainstream! professionals!) and not a lot of free time, but somehow make the time to use your product thing and really like it. Because I am NOT your target audience yet here I am, for many hours a week.

I don’t have any opinion on the marriage proposal thing, except to say that it seemed like a cheap version of proposing via Jumbotron.

You may already have this somewhere, but it would be neat if you could somehow match up people (er, programmers?) who can assist with themes and whatnot with the less computer savvy like me. I’d pay someone a minimal amount to help out with theme ideas and bugs since I have no time nor desire to figure it out for myself.

I like you a lot.
