interesting point, actually. although much of the rest of the world hates us, do they really want us to fall? if the US collapses, what becomes of the rest of them? we’ve been so big and so in charge and so majestic for so long that i wonder what would happen if the US collapsed. look at what happened after 9/11: “we are all americans.” from the french, no less. they sometimes hate us but they need us and admire us for this mostly successful experiment in governance.

the rest of the world wants us to recover from our mistakes and move civilization forward. bush and company - and notably, mccain - are symbols of the past, of our mistakes, of the worst of the US. obama can hopefully represent the future of the US. his policies are secondary to his symbolism. -M
